Second Annual Corporate Law Reform Workshop
This meeting of professionals is by invitation only and is designed for lawyers, legal scholars, and others knowledgeable about corporate law reform. Our aim: to craft a compelling, workable roadmap for how law contributes to corporate transformation Corporate Law Reform Network Goal: To support the growing movement for corporate transformation through law. The Network is creating a roadmap on the role of law in corporate transformation, which can be used by activists, legislators, business people, and others. A Powerful Network: Not a stand-alone group, the Network draws on the combined power of:
Unique focus: While many groups are tackling corporate behavior - saving wetlands, for example, or seeking to limit political contributions - our effort is unique in focusing not on what corporations do but on what they are. We're looking at the actual structure of the corporation, to see if through checks and balances, incentives and disincentives, we can work subtle and far-reaching changes in the fundamental way corporations perceive and act. We're seeking not to control corporations but to transform them. Prestigious participants: The semiannual D.C. Roundtable of lawyers and legal scholars is a key part of the Network. It includes individuals from institutions like George Washington University, Seattle University of Seattle, and Boston College, as well as the former counsel for the Pacific Stock Exchange, among many others. Corporation 20/20, also affiliated, involves state senators and representatives, leaders in social investing, company founders and CEOs, leading journalists, and many others. The group aims to:
Steering Committee: Jonathan Frieman, founder and sponsor; Marjorie Kelly, Tellus Institute, coordinator; Dana Gold, University of Seattle, academic coordinator; Charlie Cray, Center for Corporate Policy.
